The Woman Who Taught Me Strength: A Personal Reflection – Balaharipreetha Muthu

Every year on International Women’s Day, we pause to recognize the women who inspire us: leaders, mentors, colleagues, friends, and family members who shape our values and guide our journeys.

Often, the most powerful examples of strength and resilience come from the people closest to us. Their everyday actions, quiet sacrifices, and unwavering determination leave lasting impressions that influence how we think, work, and lead.

In this special employee reflection, Balaharipreetha Muthu shares a heartfelt story about the woman who has been her greatest role model, her mother. Through her resilience, independence, and ability to balance ambition with compassion, she showed her what true leadership looks like.

Who are your favorite female role models?

My mother is my greatest role model because she embodies true strength, independence, and grace under pressure. Growing up, I watched her navigate life’s many demands with unwavering purpose, never allowing external pressures to dim her inner light or slow her ambitions. She built a successful career in a demanding field while keeping our family grounded, managing responsibilities at home, nurturing our emotional well‑being, and supporting our extended family during both joyful and challenging times.

What stands out most is how effortlessly she handled it all. Whenever unexpected family emergencies arose—whether a relative fell ill or a situation required immediate attention—she stepped in with remarkable calm and efficiency, coordinating doctors, travel, and support systems without neglecting her professional commitments. During those moments, my sister and I took on the responsibility of managing the home, and instead of feeling overwhelmed, we learned the value of teamwork, trust, and shared responsibility.

What inspires me most is how she preserved her own identity through it all. She never set aside her ambitions or passions for the sake of societal expectations. Whether she was preparing for competitive exams to step up into leadership roles or carving out time for her own interests, she showed me that success can be defined entirely on one’s own terms. She proved that leadership doesn’t require aggression, that love doesn’t mean self‑sacrifice, and that responsibility can coexist with joy.

Her resilience has been a guiding force in my life. Through financial challenges, health scares, professional hurdles, and the everyday balancing act of life, she consistently rose stronger—with a calm smile and an encouraging word for others. She taught me that setbacks are opportunities for growth, not endings. Her independence was never about standing alone but about having the inner strength to stand tall while lifting others.

These lessons have shaped who I am today. In moments of doubt, I draw from her example and remind myself that I can balance multiple roles without losing myself, that compassion and ambition can go hand in hand, and that true strength often shows up in steady persistence. Professionally, her influence pushes me to aim higher, advocate for my ideas, and lead with empathy.

My mother continues to inspire me not through grand gestures, but through the quiet, consistent way she shows up every day: strong yet tender, independent yet deeply connected, ambitious yet selfless. Because of her, I believe women can and should claim space for every part of themselves. She is not just my mother; she is living proof that a meaningful, balanced, purpose‑driven life is possible. For that, I am endlessly grateful and forever inspired.

Stories like Bala’s remind us that inspiration often begins at home. The lessons we learn from the women who raise, guide, and support us shape how we approach challenges, pursue our ambitions, and uplift those around us.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate not only the achievements of women across industries and communities but also the countless personal stories of resilience, leadership, and courage that continue to inspire the next generation.

At Genzeon, we are proud to recognize the women who make a difference every day—both within our organization and in the lives of those around us.

Behind every story of growth and success, there is often a woman whose strength made it possible.
